Undertaking a brand refresh for an entire community is no easy feat. But like the thriving city it served, the City of Swan saw a need to revitalize their tired brand to keep pace with the community yet stay true to its rich Aboriginal heritage and natural assets. Their collaboration with Whadjuk Ballardong Noongar artist Kaedisha Westberg enabled them to introduce illustrated elements that vividly represent their environment, community, and traditional stories. A standout key feature of the new branding is the ‘flowing line’, symbolizing the Swan River and providing a cohesive visual backbone for all marketing materials. This innovative and inclusive approach has not only garnered fantastic feedback from the community but also inspired internal business units and attracted interest from other local governments. The successful launch of the City’s Community Calendar, featuring artwork from 13 local Noongar artists and utilizing the refreshed branding, further illustrates the campaign’s effectiveness, with all copies being quickly snapped up.
